Meet EIM Contributor, Bailey Porter!

Hi, I’m Bailey (she/her)! I am a proud wife, mommy, and pediatric occupational therapist.

I was born in Minnesota and remained there until moving to Montana with my family at the age of eleven. I grew up in an intact family: mom, dad, and younger sister. I graduated high school from a small town in the middle of Montana in 2007 before moving to Bismarck, North Dakota to attend college. Throughout high school and college, I participated in theater and music and worked as a lifeguard, certified nurse’s aide, and direct support professional for those with disabilities.

I initially went to college for physical therapy; however, after more research, soul searching, and observation hours, I found that occupational therapy was a much better fit (“yes, I know you want to be able to walk again…but are you really going to walk down that hall naked?!”).  I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise physiology with minors in theology and wellness before moving on to my Master of Science degree in occupational therapy.

Just before arriving at college, I used (I’m about to date myself here) ….Myspace… *gasp* to look for friends that would be attending the same school. That is where I first met the love of my life, Tyler. We talked all summer and finally met in person at the UMary Marauder season opener football game in August of 2007. Shortly after meeting, we began dating – and the rest is history! Tyler and I got married in a DIY, beautiful, intimate ceremony at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs in July of 2012 surrounded by our closest family and best of friends. I am incredibly fortunate to have found someone who accepts and loves me for exactly who I am and who constantly encourages me to be my best self.

In January of 2014, we moved to Idaho Falls for a career opportunity I was offered right out of graduate school. We drove here during the coldest winter in the worst blizzard of the season. In 2016, we made the leap to make our stay more permanent and bought our first home in Rigby. Shortly after moving to Rigby, we welcomed the 3rd member of our family: a miniature Goldendoodle named Thorin.

Tyler and I struggled to conceive for about 6 years and went through major lifestyle changes, multiple infertility treatments, and eventually IVF before we were blessed to welcome our daughter Arlo Mae in September of 2021.  She is the absolute joy and light of our lives.

I currently work as a pediatric occupational therapist at a local hospital and serve as adjunct faculty at ISU. When I am not working, I really enjoy being a homebody: spending time with my family, watching my daughter grow and learn, furthering my education/learning, collecting rocks and gems, drinking good coffee and beer, and eating good food. I’m also a huge fan of leggings, sweatshirts, naps, and mom buns!

As a contributing writer for East Idaho Moms, I look forward to sharing (what I hope to be) meaningful and relevant insights with our amazing village!
