EIM Nonprofit Spotlight :: Rigby Rockets

East Idaho Moms is excited to feature Rigby Rockets, part of the Jefferson Education Foundation, as our nonprofit for June 2022. Eastern Idaho is fortunate to have a wealth of nonprofit and service organizations. By highlighting some of these groups, we hope to encourage moms and families to get involved and learn about all that our wonderful community has to offer.

Rigby Rockets was established in 2019 by a high school teacher wanting others to be able to explore and develop an interest in astronomy, rocketry, and science in the greater Idaho Falls area. Rigby Rockets is continually growing and adding activities as participants’ interests grow. Children in 1st through 9th grade can participate in an astronomy and space exploration-based summer camp that occurs each August. On the final day of camp, students participate in a community model rocket launch. Students in grades 9 through 12 can participate in the American Rocketry Challenge, also known as TARC, where the group is presented with an engineering challenge to design, build, test, and retest a rocket that follows very specific requirements to deliver a payload to specific altitudes and back to the ground in a designated time.

Organizers of the Rigby Rockets hope to establish a local rocket group as part of the National Association of Rocketry that would allow the possibility to advance the group in multiple areas of rocketry including computer simulations, design, and 3D Printing. More information can be found on the Rigby Rockets Facebook page, or by contacting Jeremy Green, Program Director/Advisor, by email at [email protected] or by phone at 208-745-7704.
